Gimme? No, its socialism in action
Why do you figure the government has any right to dictate what phones are available through what carriers? I don't happen to like the iPhone - but I know a lot of people do. You are saying that when a company can negotiate a deal with Apple that gains a strategic advantage for both, they should be shot down in flames and forced to give it up to other carriers?!?!?! WTF??!?!?!

Thats just competition in action and it gives the other carriers incentive to come out with competitive phones of their own.

As to text messaging, why don't you just turn off your teenager's capability to text in the first place? When did text messaging become a "need" for a 14 year old. Its not like water where she is going to die without it (as much as she may think she will). Lets face it - for most people text messaging is a luxury item and not a need. What business does the government have regulating it at all? Other than their growing desire to get their greasy little fingers into every aspect of our lives and take control over it?
