They probably would have gotten it. The problem I have with the whole idea is the possible reduction in choice and choice guidance.
Let the bean counters start adding things up and you may have the scenerio of products being dropped because not enough hits are counted. The product may sell well enough but if you show that you can make more money dropping product A and only offering product B:
short term thinking may go with that flow.

The other danger I see is the increased manipulation of you search results. You may be tunneled to specific solutions which may not be the best but have paid the most. This becomes easier when you can track large numbers of searches. manipulating the trend so to speak.
