Interesting move
WalMart has the potential to be a major player in the electronics retail environment and a strong competition to Best Buy if it is really serious. A few thoughts for WalMart:

1. In the Sunday Ads, tell consumers about the new renovations and for them to come "see the new Electronics Department and it's products".

2. Get more knowledgeable sales staff (or educate the current staff)! You have new products, so make sure they know what they are looking at. This is a HUGE make or break in the electronics business!

3. Put the new products out front for people to see (the "WOW!" factor). Hard to see the new Dell One down an isle next to headphones...
They seem to be doing this with the remodels, so hopefully the presentation will speak for itself.

4. Pricing. Always been a big deal with WalMart. On the electronics side, Walmart used to have their "own models" of computers (HP especially) that you couldn't get at Circuit City and Best Buy, but they were cheaper. I wonder if this will be true of the "new Acer netbooks, HP and Toshiba computers."

I am a former electronics retail employee and an avid shopper of electronics. When I look for a new TV, I go to Sams and Walmart before going to Best Buy because, dollar for dollar, they are significantly cheaper. Having better quality products and more of a selection in WalMart can help bridge the gap left by Circuit City and others.
