Amazing
As much a I loathe virtually every application coded by RealNetworks, this has got to be the one case where I'm actually completely behind them. We need the slippery slope to start sliding in the favor of the consumer.

Ironically enough, the way I read it, movies ripped with RealDVD will have more copy protection than the original DVDs themselves. RealDVD isn't an open source app; I can't get the code on a T-Shirt (although even if it was; that'd require ALOT of T-shirts). If anything should get a judge to tell the MPAA to deal with it, it's RealDVD.

If Real wins, then we have a court precedent. A court precedent will give us the next step to winning back fair use rights, and maybe, just maybe, we'll see the tide start to turn. This isn't Psystar making outlandish claims. This is RealNetworks, a company with enough money to hire a few good lawyers, and a product that by all accounts should be allowed to exist on the market. I'm not saying I'd use it (although I might buy it on principle), but if RealNetworks can win this case, the wall just might start to crack.
