Not your daddys hackers
These attacks were clumsy and unsophisticated.
Merely a fake keygen program which installed an
easily detectable service. This is what attacks
looked like in 1995.

Which leads me to suspect that this is not one
of the highly sophisticated groups attacking
the Windows population. Or it could be a proof-
of-concept from one of those groups.

The attackers in the Windows world have show
every sign of having invested heavily in
tooling, essentially automating reverse
engineering patches and semi-automating
attacks.

So far these attacks show no signs of such
sophistication.

But, there's still a conception in the OS X
community that somehow OSX is superior or even
immune to real attacks.

It doesn't matter if everyone in the know try
to tell them otherwise. You hear empty,
abstract claims such "because of its Unix
roots" or "secure by design".

OS X is easily the OS with the most
vulnerabilities
discovered each year. 3
times more than Vista to be exact.

OS X is also the operating system with
the fewest mitigation techniques and the
poorest defense in-depth.

And if Apple insist on continuing spreading the
false notion that there are no viruses on OS X,
it will also be the operating system with the
most gullible user base.

That a recipe for a disaster. Wake up. The bad
guys haven't even started yet. Every time
Vista/Windows 7 raises the bar the more OS X
will appear as the low hanging fruit.
