Unisys
I went to work at Univac in 1968 and retired from Unisys in 2007. Looking back, the corporation seemed to be in some sort of trouble the whole of my employment and never quite figured out it's proper place in the world. I survived mergers, acquisitions and numerous RIFs and reorgs. By 1990 Unisys was a stew of people, customers and technology from Sperry, Burroughs, RCA, EMR, Memorex, and others. Despite all the trouble I am proud to have started out in a business that still has a large roster of customers and spawned dozens of successful IT enterprises. Many experts predicted Unisys would not last very long into the 1990's. A large number of Sperry people are hard at work today in the very same ex-Sperry building working for Lockheed-Martin. Unisys is still around and perhaps will confound the pundits again.
