RIM certainly has the *right* to do this, so long as they're informing employees to the extent required by law.

On the other hand, just because they *can* doesn't mean they *should*. A lot of my work as a security professional requires me getting people to open up and share their concerns; I can't do that unless they trust me to insulate them. They're not going to complain to me that their manager is asking them to "bend" policy, for example, if they think their manager can find out who ratted.

If all calls were recorded, I couldn't effectively do my job.

The pattern applies more broadly, as well. I think it's a lot easier for a team to work effectively if they can relax and be themselves. That's a lot harder to do if you know you're always being watched and recorded for posterity.
