Your suggestion doesn't solve the problem, you are still vulnerable. These are some better suggestions:

- Use another pdf reader like Sumatra on Windows, and Okular/etc on Linux
- Ask people to send you files on some other format
- Run in a sandbox
- Don't read pdf

I personally would suggest the first option, since it allows going on with life without much hassle. It also reminds Adobe that if they don't take these issues seriously, we do have alternatives.
