The fact is not everybody needs a feature rich OS
In fact even those that need or desire one on their primary computer may not desire one on their secondary computer, which is what netbooks are. The purpose of a netbook is to get something done simply and quickly, and Vista just isn't designed for that. For that matter neither was XP, but since that was designed for computers even slower than today's netbooks, you can get away with using it.

So hopefully Windows 7 takes into consideration that features are not always welcome and employs a more modular design to make it easier to not only disable features but not install them in the first place (which is very important on netbooks with lower capacity SSDs).
