You don't have use of a card reader?
I find that to be an extremly handy thing to have. I'm not sure why you think that wouldn't be useful. Also, I'm not sure why an inactive card reader would use power. Biometrics would be nice for security, but it's a Mac so we know security really doesn't matter to them.
