Maybe not expected, but what they MIGHT have announced...

Two things that have had persistent rumors weren't announced: a smaller, less expensive notebook/netbook, and a refresh to the Mac Mini. I suspect that either of those products would have generated more excitement than the ones that were announced.

Sure, the unibody MacBook Pro is cool but we already knew it was coming after the 15" model and the down-market MacBook went unibody. And still no Blu-Ray from Apple; I know they're resisting it because of the licensing terms but we might have least have seen a Blu-Ray option for the Mac Pro, along with an upgrade to Final Cut Pro for Blu-Ray authoring, so the content creators would be happy.

As for their other product lines, January is the wrong time of year for an iPod announcement (wow, just in time to miss the holiday shopping season), and it's a bit soon for a major new iPhone product.
