...What everyone else said wink Although
I should point out that if we dont go carbon negative there's still going to be trouble... But yes, its a start.

The biggest problem is that attempts to clean up a generational industry like mobile phones relies on the consumer to responsibly return the equipment to the supply chain, but all the time they discard in favour of the latest, with the biggest screen, memory and feature list, even what does return is largely useless to the manufacturer without a lot of processing.

I've got an idea.

Create a range of MODULAR devices based on a common connector set. It looks like virtualisation is going to clear the stage for the next generation of mobile OS's which could make that level of interchange of hardware possible. Plug-and-play architecture that goes beyond snap-on fancy cases to swapping out screens, touch/keyboard combinations and networking options, snap-in printing modules and the like.

Maybe even a bus architecture to allow one set of hardware to make several different configurations by swapping the placement of them and adding casing and interconnects.

An important part would be stores participating in trading back parts and modules so that they, and the manufacturers still have a revenue chain for new and recycled units, and evolution of the handset core can still happen.

Just a thought...
