What a narrow concept!
Perhaps the author should think a bit before banging a keyboard. Think back to VHS. Maybe you rented a few tapes, maybe you even copied a few movies, but which tapes are still on your shelves and cherished? Home movies - Junior's first birthday, and maybe your wedding video.

Camcorders are more commonplace, cheaper and much, much better than in the eighties. You will need some sort of media to store your cherished memories on and you won't feel safe with just having them on a harddrive. All harddrives crash some time.

Yes, Blu-ray media is costly right now. Around $7 per for printable discs. But prices are dropping sharply. DVDs used to be costly and are now under $0.30 per disc.

Streamed and/or broadband hi-def will always have bandwidth constraints which cause quality issues. Watching Blu-ray hi-def movies that we've video'd ourselves is awesome! Sharper and clearer than cable hi-def and even better than most movies I've rented - even the Blu-ray ones. (Maybe they squeezed the bandwidth too much?)

Being able to reach into our Blu-ray disc album and pull out an amazingly crisp video to show to friends and family is a joy. Blu-ray is late, perhaps even flawed, but it is awesome!
