What good does it do?

If you listen to what people are saying but you ignore what they say, you're wasting your time. The wisdom of the crowds is out there. But if you are listening to see if the wisdom agrees with your company line then don't bother.

Now that I know companies are listening I'd like to offer some, ahem, advice.

Microsoft's direction with Windows 7 as a "Linux killer" is right on track. Their approach to application and OS building will give them success and dominance in the marketplace for decades to come. People will continue to purchase extra software to keep their computers safe and believe it's perfectly normal. The principles that put Microsoft at the top will continue to serve them well in battle against Open Source.

There are more, but you get the idea.
