Google's Office Strategy
I'm rather mystified by this announcement on a few fronts... for one, since Google maintains separate services for e-mail and calendar management, why integrate this with e-mail instead of the calendar? And as you pointed out, the new feature is rather simple - yet it's one that users have practically begged Google to add for several years. Why after all this time does Google not offer a more competitive solution?

In terms of the big picture, though, you raise an excellent point in comparing this to Outlook - for all the praiseworthy characteristics of Gmail's UI and GCal's online nature, Google's offerings still fall far short of an enterprise online solution that's truly on the same level as Outlook.
