How should companies approach outsourcing in this economy?

Outsourcing is not the same as offshoring: Communication technology and economics are driving
globalization. If US-based companies don't offer
competitive services, foreign competitors will. You
can't stuff the technology genie back in the bottle.

Moreover, simplistic policy based on a
misunderstanding of outsourcing would damage both the
company outsourcing and the jobs that have been
outsourced. ADP offers outsourced payroll services,
but it doesn't mean that any jobs went offshore.
Outsourced customer service, reservations, helpdesk,
procurement, credit and collections, and warranty
returns/repairs can all be done onshore or with a
