Platform is the way to go forward
This is great idea. There is or was the idea of skateboard-
type chassis for a car where you just plunked down the
body, motor, etc. that you wanted. The skateboard
provided all of the interconnections.

There is also the idea of a data-power cable which delivers
both throughout the car. In other words, a single cable to
your electric windows provides the power to raise/lower
them as well as delivering the instructions.

It would be nice to link to the car via bluetooth from the
home computer and pull off data stats (miles driven, tire
pressure, maintenance info.) as well as updating the car's
systems. And of course, the car should be a wi-fi center
for any electronics that need to communicate (phone,
radio, traffic, etc).
