TiVo niche ?
DirecTV's has once again partnered with TiVo for a new HD model next year. Without getting technical TiVo uses dual buffers one for each tuner that Dish and DirecTV cannot copy.

I don't think it's a niche product since the verb TiVo has entered the vernacular on par with the verb photoshop.

The problem with the internet and the TV is that the true niche exists amongst the small minority who know how to run a cat5 cable from their router to the back of their DVR/Tuners and correctly type in the IP address and or correctly configure DHTC. You follow my drift? How about regular updates to your Blu-Ray firmware to avoid those "Disk not playable" messages?

I agree with your view that we all see these technologies come and go and for them to become successful people like my neighbor Lee have to be able to understand it. That's why Blockbuster brick and Mortar stores will always continue to flourish.

These new technologies have to get a certain market share to become profitable. The market isn't there.
