Technical innovations?
Is the iPod or the iPhone successful because its technology is far in advance of any available to other companies? Or because existing capabilities are being used to design devices appealing to the public?

Wouldn't Steve Jobs be a more appropriate replacement for Mr. Lutz (in charge of design) rather than Mr. Wagoner?

And by the way Mr. Lutz is probably doing a good job of design work. But a well designed vehicle of the wrong size is still not going to sell.

And at that, GM has to make a profit on an automobile, no matter how well designed to appeal to the public. The US companies have not found a way to make small cars profitable, not without making an agreement with foreign manufacturers.

So the US GM jobs would still disappear. The advantage would be that autos with GM name plates would still appear.

Which is some small consolation, I suppose.
