Hell yes!
Seems to me the idea of being "important" goes hand in hand with trying to "not be alone." Cell phones, texting, IM etc is not only an addiction but seemingly serves to quell our deepest fears. That really, no matter how many tech flavored distractions we pile on against the dark ever encroaching nothingness towards which we are all ultimately headed - there is no escape. We are born alone and die alone. Fill your time as you might but in the end as it always has been, alone we will face our demise. Check out some Earnest Becker, or even The Who, who so eloquently put it in their song Eminence Front.
