same heat output as on land
Certainly it's an issue. However, there's no
indication that these data centers will produce any
more heat that those based on land. In fact, due to
the nature of water acting as a "heat sink", the
temperature of the water will rise far more slowly
than the temperature of the air does around a land-
based data center. We're not producing any more heat
using these off-shore modules, the heat is just ending
up somewhere else in the immediate area. The heat
energy will end up somewhere, no matter where the data
centers are running.

The amount of pollution and carbon that is saved from
being spewed into the atmosphere will far outweigh any
small amount of heat that the data centers will
produce, relatively speaking.

Think of it like this: the way we produce our energy
now is like putting a pool inside a green house. The
way Google proposes is like pouring a glass of warm
water into a pool. Certainly the green-house pool is
going to boil much faster.
