I have not seen the evidence that Google is evil.
I use Google email, Google search, Google news, and sometimes I to youtube when linked to that site. So far I have not seen any evidence that Google is trying to lock me in, or use it's monopoly power to cross promote their products.
Okay, maybe there is a gmail link on top of Google page, but that is about the extent of their cross promotion.

Further more, Google promotes open source, and anyone who promotes open source can't be that bad.

Two additional points to make:

1. Google may be extending itself to areas which it really has no business going into. Do we really need another browser?

2. Most Google initiatives fail. Anyone remember Google spreadsheets? How about Google answers? Seems to me that Google takes shotgun approach to business. Google tries many things, and only few of those succeed.
