Unified Communications will mostly not be SaaS
It will be a long time before SaaS systems that IT administrators consider 'toys' (eg Webex, Google Apps or lesser known brands like Hyperoffice) make a big impact on the IT world. There are too many security, latency and reliability issues.

Instead, most UC (unified communications) systems will come from vendors like Microsoft, Lotus and Unison, which offer a choice of on-premise and SaaS versions. Today, fewer than 2 million seats of MS Exchange are hosted, out of 200 million total. Unified communications is even more difficult to host than e-mail, so this leaning towards on-premise will remain for many years.
