Granted there are obstacles but others here have just posted some possible solutions. Obviously this isn't something that could be ready for this years election but definitely (I think) something that could be considered. When you register to vote you could opt to allow "online voting". When you get your registration confirmation it could have some kind of hash code that you enter online, in addition to confirming information you've already provided (name, address, SSN etc). Oh and think of the green house gases it could save if maybe only a couple thousand voted "at home" online vs going to a poll. But then again, you could argue that people should just absentee vote. Anyways, I realize it's a wild thought, but part of the argument on my other comment was that some people are already weary of electronic voting at polling places and it could maybe take an industry giant that can be held more accountable than the guys who are already putting out poor quality devices that don't seem to pass QA.
