- Rather off opinion Tom
- Tom, respected your opinions for a long time, but this one is just way off base. First off, anyone who tracks this space, as I do, knows that Hillcrest does not need any more publicity. It's probably one of the most publicized startups on the planet having been on just about every major network and in every major news outlet multiples of times in print, online text, video and audio. Second, if they were going to try to get more publicity, filing a multi-tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars lawsuit, which is what it takes to start patent litigation these days, is not an efficient mechanism to do so. Third, if you did further research on the Wii, you'd find a dearth of patent protection. It's amazing to me that it's gotten this far without a major attack by the various patentholders of motion enabled technologies. Hillcrest is not the only one, surely there will be more lawsuits. We know of Hillcrest and at least two other players who are holding patents that appear at a blush to sit on top of the Wii...but I'm not a lawyer. I can't say if Nintendo will win or lose this, but having been tracking Hillcrest, Logitech, UEI and others in this space over time, and having had a ton of conversations over who's got the intellectual property over this space, this is a very serious patent infringement suit. It is what it is. Dare I say it's WiiSIWYG?
