I like eBay precisely because parts of it are NOT fixed price.

I'm excited to read the statement "I don???t have the time or inclination to monitor some auction. Give me a price and I???ll pay it or walk." It means less competing buyers and better deals for me.

Much of business and real life comes down to one word: negotiation! Unfortunately, too many of my fellow Americans don't like negotiation, not even for their salary, and they get shortchanged from car salesmen to bosses and beyond.

Auctions are what made eBay different from everywhere else. It is a kind of automated negotiation.
