Open Standards and Open Processes.
That's the bottom line. If you are locked in, start undoing the lock. Find solutions that don't entail proprietary solutions. You can cry in your soup all you want, but until you have an IT infrastructure that enables you to tell your vendors to get lost when they try and gouge you, there is nothing you can do.

As a business, you take 6X the yearly cost of your SAP solution and bid an infrastructure sweep for that cost. Or, you simply eat the elephant one byte ( grin ) at a time.
