It hasn't been that long ago...

my company got rid of its last Green screen based network in favor of a fancy Windows based network at several of our branch offices. Guess what. We didn't pick up one iota of productivity gain. We did manage to spend a few thousand dollars, gain Internet access at each desktop, increase down time as more complicated hardware made for more room for errors. But we gained absolutely NO productivity gains. Imagine that.

Investing in new systems keeps the IT industry up and going but really does very little in addition to that.

I doubt if 10% of the improvements in IT in the last 10 years has really added any productivity for its users.
