If you are using gnome (Ubuntu's default desktop envrionment) just go to gnomelook.org and look at the screen shots people have posted. There are a lot of creative folks out there. It's pretty easy to make gnome look and act like auqa. Compiz-fusion's eye candy blows both auqa and aero out of the water, and its enabled by default since 7.10 . So I don't think Cannonical has too far to go. They just need to abandon that butt ugly brown-orange default color scheme.
