Partially agree, but......
The argument is that ALL apps should be web interface with all of the work being done on remote servers. Forget wireless connectivity issues in the USA, the reality is that having apps on your mobile device will be required for the foreseeable future. At least 50 times every day I need to refer to one bit of information, and the lack of speed from using web browser to retrieve the information from a remote server would be enough for me to go back to paper and pencil.

Additionally, I run apps that have loads of good information that I would never spend time accessing remotely. Here's a fun app as an example: Sport-PDA.com's (Hey Rodrigo!) Euro 2008. I sat watching the Spain/Italy match Sunday and pulled up players' stats as they made great plays, or were substituted in and out. Even with 4g (my son currently has 3G and I am on AT&T 2G) this would be too slow, would draw too much current from the battery, and be a general pain in the derri?re.

So OS WILL continue to be a focus. And I am routing for Android rather than the closed Mac (how can you call it nearly open?!?!?!?). Good news on Symbian, right move Nokia. But I'm looking forward to a Android touch smartphone that I can hack away on creating useful apps that the evil Steve Jobs will have no say over. And I suspect we'll continue to see extremely cool apps at low cost from the likes of Rodrigo Marban of Sport-PDA.com.
