I'll believe it when I see it
SATA (and eSata) is already at 3.0 Gb/s, which is way
faster than most drives can use. FireWire 1600 and 3200
will be available by the end of the year, providing
competition for eSATA.

USB 3 claims 4.8 Gb/s, I'll believe it when I see it. USB 2
claimed 480 Mb/s versus FireWire 400's 400Mb/s, yet in
real world usage FireWire 400 managed to be significantly
faster than USB 2. And although FireWire 800 has been
around since 2003, Intel hasn't bothered to up the speed
of USB.

So forget USB 3, buy eSATA or FireWire 800 stuff that is
available now and put some pressure on Intel to
compete.
