Comparing Apples with Potatoes?
I find it staggering that many computer journalists have
uncritically "bought" Psystar's highly questionable
comparison of the "OpenMac" to the "Mac Mini".

Heck, a few decades back I had a miniature Rollei 35mm
camera and an SLR. They both cost about the same , and
the SLR was undoubtedly more "powerful" than the Rollei.
But the tiny size of the Rollei meant that I could do things
with it that I could not dream of doing with the SLR.

The same is true of the Mac Mini. I can't imagine too many
people sticking a Psystar on their TV cabinet to use as a
multi-media centre for example. Miniaturization is a virtue
in its own right and comes at a price, both financial and
performance wise.

If Psystar were honest , and more computer journalists
were worth their salt, they would add the price of a decent
keyboard, monitor, mouse , webcam, a copy of iLife,
firewire, sound card, wireless networking and bluetooth to
an "OpenComputer" and compare its performance and cost
efficiency to a base level iMac. This is clearly the Apple that
comes closest to it in real market terms.

On a level playing field the Psystar wouldn't just lose out
on build quality, noise, design and updateability. I suspect
it would lose out badly on both price and performance,
too!

Cheers

Rod
