get a used or refurb mac/macbook
If you're going to try OSX as a new user, at least try it on the intended hardware. I'm not a Mac user, but if I was to try it, I'd definitely go for a refurb Macbook to get a true experience. There's always bootcamp if you can't deal with OSX.

If you're a long time Apple person, I would guess you're better suited to deal with a Psystar system and the issues it comes with.
