The value of advertising
I question the value of processor companies advertising to the average consumer.

As you say, most "Average Joe" citizens with little IT knowledge will have no idea who/what AMD is, but may have some knowledge of Intel. However, I think you have to question what makes people buy one system over another. I don't believe it is the advertising of the chip company, rather it is the advertising of the OEM or a the advice of an IT "geek" friend/family member that influences "Average Joe's" decision.

AMD should focus on improving relationships and parternerships with OEMs (Dell for instance!!)and retailers/wholesellers so that there is more market saturation of their products. They also need to improve product performance (easier said than done) so that the IT "geeks" will come back to them and in turn recommend them to friends/family.
