where everything works that you would expect to wort without an internet connection, coupled with near desktop performance, and of course seemless synchronization. Even when online, we need local caching with background syncing so that even with flaky and slow internet connections everything is lightning fast.

I think we are also on the edge a huge simplification for applications like office suites, as a huge swath of overly complicated functionality will no longer needed in the Web 2.0 world.

This experience could be had with things like Adobe AIR, and also Gears, after they add Java to the programming languages available in offline mode.
