Pretty smart move. No matter how much he might hate MS, he knows that he
has to do what is right for shareholders, though that may not be best for employees. Well, really, the employees do not have to worry, they can move over to Google and other companies if/when that is necessary.

But, I really doubt that Yang will be around for the transition after the merger - he will be out doing a new startup, or could even land at Google. He would make a great addition to the management team at Google.
