RE: If you call someone a 'nerd' are you a moron? (Part 1)
to understand this topic better, wade your understanding into the waters of aspergers syndrom.

quirky, obsessive nerds.

In my child's case, he was reading English and Japanese at age 2. Still, eye contact and understanding of people's intent is comparatively behind.

He is creative as well. He is just as creative, only his creativeness often misses with other people because he just can figure out how they will interpret him and so can't modify his creativeness to better effect. Ask any creative person how much they tweek to better effect and you will see his problem.

In any case, he is certainly a mutant. Read X-men. Special powers, special deficits.

He has every desire to be as sociable as everyone else, only lacks the perception to do that. At the same time, he can perceive details of things that other people who are much older and whose jobs it is to percieve those details miss.

As a non-mutant, he troubles me. I am his father though so look constantly for his bright side, which actually is quite easy to see.

Certainly the creative types need the nerds for what they can do. Certainly the nerds can use help in understanding the expectations and perceptions of others.

Honestly speaking, look at our pollution and energy situation. The cool kids might not have it so cool anymore if the nerds don't find some solutions. No?
