Not totally accurate
Applications that we?re all used to just aren?t quite there yet.
If the reference is DVD playback, the hold up isn't the application. It's the proprietary codecs for playing DVD's that are the issue. Also applies to online media, although the installation is much easier in 7.10.

That line was true a couple years ago but not anymore, depending on exactly what application you're talking about.

What's still not "there" in real life:

- Wireless networking. Big strides, but still trying to deal with proprietary driver compatibility issues.

- Turbo-Tax. Still stubbornly requiring IE and Windows for the online version.

- Some niggling little issues with switching users. Still no way to create portable user profiles. Minor yet annoying.

- Still finding some odd issues connecting to a Windows network. Nothing I can't get working but that's one area most users would be totally lost.

- Still have to back up my xorg.conf file. Much better than Feisty, but still the rare problem setting up a new monitor.

And what applications that are available for Linux that don't work on Widnows?

Despite the minor niggles, Ubuntu 7.10 has taken over as my desktop at home and run my sideline businesses.

Fix the wireless issues and wireless broadband.
