Are You Playing to Win, or Not to Lose?
When your favorite team takes the field are you cheering for them to win the game, or are you hoping not to lose?

To win the game, derived value of services needs to be the key driver of IT strategy. Cost reduction and simplification for it's own sake is futile. It's like playing not to lose.

CIOs today are business people. What business person would not spend slightly more for a product that was worth quadruple the value to its customers?

An enlightened CIO will find ways to put in place a basic governance framework that empowers employees, customers and partners to innovate with and without permission. This is how you play to win. Companies that foster this type of free flowing ecosystem are the future leaders.
