I don't see AT&T gaining any significant ground any time soon...
Because their service sucks. Well, their customer service is what really, Really, REALLY sucks.
I tried Uverse for less than a month and spent so long on the phone with their customer service trying to get them to fix all sorts of things they got wrong (from screwing up my phone line to getting my cable order wrong and not fixing it for the whole time I had the service), that I just switched back to Time Warner.

The service seems to have potential, but the execution is horrendous.
