Somebody ask Google how they will handle conversion to/from other office
formats while offline. We are assuming that at first this will not be possible, and JavaScript can only do so much.

But, maybe they can do something that Sun could never do, and finally create a version of Java that is super light weight for browsers, and has special sand-boxing for the offline problem.

Well, it is just that Google may be able to generate the excitement around it that Sun could never generate. It also helps that Google has so many online properties that can actually use it, and create compelling online experiences.

Come on Google, as you did for Android, create an open source offline applications platform around Firefox/Gears/Java. Just skip IE, Firefox runs on Windows.
