DRM
It's a shame that the Kindle will utilise the Mobipocket (acquired by Amazon in 2005) system, which means its proprietary DRM. Readers for their e-books are available on a large variety of platforms (PC/Mac, PDAs, mobile phones), so at least (in theory) we won't be trapped into reading books on a Kindle device.

There's something inherently wrong with purchasing a book in an encrypted format that I need a special mechanism to access. I think I'll stick with real books (i.e., the paper kind) until the vendors finally realise that the vast majority of buyers are not thieves.

I'd also like to know why digital books are still relatively expensive: given there's no cost to print or distribute physically, what are we paying for? Somehow I doubt that the authors are getting a large proportion of the cost. It seems like it's mostly profit for the publishers.
