How do these companies make money when WiMax 1ghz is FREE IN USA
Here is the thing. The US tax payers already have paid for broadband wireless internet and phone access in the < 1ghz spectrum. This is the spectrum currently dedicated to TV and the white space between channels, the unused channels and the channels being freed owing to HiDef TV. The infrastructure for the most part has already been built. There is not a lot of investment needed.

So this is a problem for businesses that do phone and video big time. All the investment in other spectrum > 1ghz, all that infrastructure, and all the investment in terrestrial infrastructure (line wire and cable) is obsolete. What is worse for these trans national big businesses is that US residents are better served by WiMax in < 1ghz because this spectrum goes through buildings and is fully mobile where as other spectrum does not and is not.

So we have a classic monopoly power situation. If the existing powers in telecommunication and cable TV can forestall WiMax in < 1Ghz they can milk their investors and customers longer.

We must not be stupid and let this happen. Traitors can not be allowed to privatize < 1 Ghz or other wise halt what Clearwire (an AT&T investment company) and Google are doing.

WiMax is our digital democracy. The health and well being and economic benefits are just so huge. No other nation on earth can take advantage of the dot commons the USA has because that spectrum has been privatized.
