... I guess it really works. I used to be an advocate for buying Dells as I had no issues with them and tech support was very good back in the 90's and even early this decade. The evil head reared itself when a company becomes to big and they replace qualified support with half-a$$ed support, and custom parts.

I've had probably 6 people within the last year come up to me and ask my opinions on what PCs to buy and I can tell you I directed them at HP instead of dell, we deal with them all the time at work and they don't seem to have many problems as well, they also have better customer support (half the time tech support is from Canada, you may get a little "ay" but at least you can understand them). Oh and once the user gets the PC i tell them just to reinstall the OS so they don't have as many horrible applications that the vendors always preload.
