Doesn't FoxNews have RSS?
I mean, why do I have to keep my browser pointed to it? Why not just my newsreader.

Over the last few years, even the most hidebound US newspapers have begun supporting RSS. They don't support it with all stories -- they want people coming to the site. But they found that when they didn't, their audience didn't know they were alive.

FoxNews has also shared in this silliness. For a long time they didn't support links to specific stories, which they called "deep links." Every link one tried to write went back to their home page. There are still some news sites (mainly in TV) that will, after some seconds, take you off the story you clicked to and deposit back to their home page. (See 11alive.com for an example.)

Oh, and that Al-Jazeera "scoop?" CNN had that film by 2 PM.

The point is that those of us who want to stay on top of the news still face resistance from the news business, and that the value of a "scoop" diminishes day by day.

Better to get it right than first. Best to get it both right and first.
