Thank you...
You've put into words what I've long thought about support ending for Win98: Big Deal.

I still have a dual-boot for Win98 on my box for compatibiity reasons, and not being able to get new updates for it hasn't bothered me in the least, and nor will it in the future.

I've used 98 exclusively at times when the HDD containing the XP partition died, and I guarantee my install wasn't anywhere near up-to-date. It still worked, albeit with the occasional error (mostly related to flaky drivers more than anything else). In fact, a recent reformat/reinstall of 98 on that partition fixed all the problems I was having before, and the last time I ran it, it worked as well as a 98SE install on a newer computer could be expected to run.

98 users won't have any problmes as long as they practice safe computing.

There is one thing that MS really should do: make Win98SE freeware, and make CD images (OEM and Retail) available for download along with a key generator for those who have lost their installation discs and/or cd key certificates.
