Too many masters
The ROKR phone suffers from the same problems that Sony has
had in recent years with their digital music offerings. Sony has
two masters, the technology group, that wants to make the best
player possible for the highest sales, and the music group, that
insists on strictly limiting any usage of digital music. As such,
they keep coming out with restricted, crippled products that
don't appeal to the consumer.

The ROKR phone has it even worse--you've got Motorola, trying
to sell phones, Apple, who don't want any phone that will cut
into iPod sales, and Cingular, who want to strictly control the
direct downloading of music to a phone. And as a result, you've
got a product that doesn't appeal to customers because of all
the limitations.
