- RE: It looks like Sony will have the better hardware
-
I guess I'm just not seeing that. The tech specs that have been thrown around for both systems (referring to the next xbox and ps3) are incredibly impressive. These are both sounding like monsters and it doesn't seem either one has a clear technical advantage over the other (in fact, they sound awefully comparable)... not like today where there's a major difference in performance and capabilities between the consoles.

I don't think they're playing catch up anymore. Clearly, Sony still has the console market cornered, but MS has become a serious competitor. They've managed to push Nintendo to 3rd place and for a few months even outpaced Sony for new console sales. They have no where near the installed base Sony does (I believe the PS2 still has just over 60% of the console market and the XBox has around 20%), but Sony's lead is shrinking. With the next XBox supposedly coming out at the end of this year (assuming we'll know if that's true on May 12,) MS is going to get a nice head start on Sony.
Keep in mind that no console has remained on top terribly long. Sony is obviously king right now, but that's not going to last. Atari fell from first. Sega fell from first. Nintendo fell from first. Sonn enough it will be Sony's turn. Who knows who will be on top next go-round.
Beyond all that, my biggest concern for both the XBox2/360/Next/Whatever and the PS3 is price. The rumored specs for both of them tends to lean towards extremely expensive machines. It's tough being an early adopter and spending $300 on a new console when it comes out. I can't imagine these things moving if they're 400, 500 or 600$. - Posted by: JakAttak Posted on: 04/27/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
