These pet "social responsibility" issues get way more attention than they're worth. Like "Earth Day"?another sacred cow of pure symbolism whose principal function is to enable people to believe that they're actually doing something to Save the Earth. Oh, sorry...is that a bit too heretical? (Moo!)
Such mass-consciousness phenomena generally take on the characteristics of a religion, an affliction with which the public perception of "environmental issues" is well endowed. It seems to me that the people who make the most noise squawking and jabbering about such things would do better for themselves and others by finding honest work. They pick on public companies because they're easy targets, and because it's a great way to draw attention to their self-aggrandizing agendas. IOW, they're taking cheap shots, because they can. I wonder if any of them actually create or produce anything that's of value to their fellow humanoids...I mean other than satisfying the apparently insatiable demand of the masses for melodramatic, sanctimonious finger-pointing in the imaginary "us vs. them" wars that these bozos and bozettes routinely create.
As for the whining about "not enough women in executive positions", that sounds like another pantload. If Apple (or any other company) were actively discriminating against women, I'd say that they would deserve every bit of disadvantage that such an idiotic policy would give them. In time, the market has a way of serving up...er, "natural justice"?or the operational equivalent?to jerks who are stupid enough to deprive themselves of the talents, energy, and perspective that women provide. Men and women are NOT equal, a fact for which I'm personally grateful. I NEVER trust boys clubs...or girls clubs either, for that matter. Vive la difference.
But there is no evidence that Apple has any policy of gender prejudice. The implication that the absence of women on a company's board "proves" that it is prejudiced is simply absurd. It's even more absurd that someone who has zero risk of ownership should have anything to say about the company's right to establish its own policies. Yes...even if they are stupid and unfair policies. I mean, why would a reasonable person even want to work for such a company? I wouldn't.
Besides, if a company is truly that unenlightened, the market will enlighten 'em right quick, or there won't BE a company for very long. - Posted by: slingzenarrowzuvowtrayjissforchin Posted on: 04/21/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
