"First, if DVDs can be downloaded off the internet, why can't HDTV programs."

A normal 2hr movie on DVD is about 2-3Gb. An HD movie could be 10x that size or more. Downloading 40 Gb files CAN be done - I hope you didn't want to watch that movie TONITE.

"Second, there is nothing saying that they can't convert the programs to DIVX before they distribute them."

DivX MIGHT be able to compress them a tad - but the files are still humungous!
